This practical workshop is designed for yoga teachers, trainees and dedicated practitioners wanting to refine the art of hands-on assists, yoga adjustments and safe physical cueing. Learn how to offer assists that are purposeful, ethical and empowering, helping students experience greater alignment, awareness and confidence in their practice.

During this immersive training you will explore:

  • Foundations of safe and effective hands-on yoga assists

  • How to give clear, confident and supportive adjustments

  • Assists for common standing, seated and restorative postures

  • Consent, boundaries and ethical touch in yoga teaching

  • Using touch to enhance alignment, stability and student experience

  • When to assist, when to observe, and when not to adjust

  • Partner practice to develop confidence and sensitivity

WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • Begin with the essential principles that make hands-on assists effective and responsible.

    We’ll explore:

    • Why we assist and the purpose behind touch

    • Student safety and injury prevention

    • Contraindications and when not to assist

    • Consent-based teaching and how to ask permission

    • Reading body language and respecting boundaries

    • Ethical touch and trauma-informed considerations

    • Body mechanics for teachers when assisting

    This module lays the foundation for assists that feel grounded, respectful and supportive.

  • Learn practical assists for common standing shapes to support stability, alignment and energetic direction.

    Postures may include:

    • Warrior I & II

    • Triangle

    • Side Angle

    • Chair Pose

    • Forward Folds

    • Balancing postures

    Explore:

    • Grounding and stabilising assists

    • Directional cueing through touch

    • Supporting alignment without forcing depth

    • When less is more

  • Refine assists for postures that benefit from subtle support and spaciousness.

    Postures may include:

    • Seated forward folds

    • Bound Angle

    • Pigeon variations

    • Seated twists

    • Wide-legged folds

    Explore:

    • Assists for length rather than compression

    • Supporting release safely

    • Breath-led assisting

    • Common mistakes in adjustment work

  • Bring everything together while learning assists for more nuanced postures.

    Postures may include:

    • Cobra / Upward Dog

    • Camel

    • Bridge / Wheel preparations

    • Restorative shapes

    • Savasana support

    • Assisting vulnerable areas safely

    • Supporting opening without over-adjusting

    • Restorative touch and nervous system awareness

    • Practice teaching assist labs with feedback
